WHO TYPICALLY JOINS CHALICE CIRCLES?

Adults of all ages, marital and working statuses and backgrounds join Chalice Circles.
Long term church members and those new to the church participate.  Couples join the same groups or choose to be in different groups.  A diverse group of people join, allowing for a cross section of ideas, opinions and personal experiences. So come, come whoever you are!

HOW CHALICE CIRCLES WORK

Groups of 5-10 people meet two or more times each month for two hours at a time to
explore pre-selected topics together.  Each group is guided by a trained, member
facilitator.  Chalice Circle members agree to follow a covenant which acts as a common
set of guidelines for respectful group interaction.  Chalice Circle membership requires
commitment to regular attendance to the end of the current series.

CHALICE CIRCLE FORMAT

Each time a Chalice Circle group meets, we follow a format designed to create the setting and the structure needed to share our journeys, listen deeply and learn from the experience of others.

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

During the series, most groups choose to do a service project within the church and the community. The decision of what to do is made by each Chalice Circle and typically is something the group can to together.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS ARE SAYING ABOUT CHALICE CIRCLES

“Being new to this UU community and to Honolulu I feel grateful and amazed by the
beauty and simplicity of the Chalice Circle program.  It’s been a wonderful experience
and opportunity to get to know people, and to grow with them in community.”

-- Judith Clark

“Participating in a Chalice Circle has been an opportunity to connect with people on a
deep level that I had never really experienced besides with my husband and a few close
friends. It has added a whole new dimension to my experience with the UU Church and
I really look forward to our bi-monthly gatherings.”

--Lee Curran

"I like the Chalice Circles because for 4 hours a month it's possible to sit and have a conversation with friendly people from the church. The conversation is focused instead of being random chat, so we can kind of compare how we think and feel about issues. In a family values place like Hawaii it gives me a family I wouldn't otherwise have. I recommend them."
--Marshall Heaney

“Our chalice circle is an immersion in the life stories and wisdom of others with an
intimacy I could never get ordinarily. It has provided me insight, balance, and even joy
and I have been awarded some of the most meaningful interactions I've had through
this church.”

--Dawn Shin

“Chalice Circles are a delightful way to share our stories, uninterrupted through deep
listening, and a way for us to get to know and relate to one another on a new level.”

--Helen Slaughter
